Transforming Bukedi into a hub of prosperity and sustainable growth.
Bukedi is a vibrant region in eastern Uganda, renowned for its rich agricultural land, diverse communities, and strategic position for trade and commerce. Home to various ethnic groups, the region boasts a rich cultural heritage and is primarily reliant on agriculture. Key crops like rice, maize, cassava, and bananas are vital to both local consumption and regional trade. Bukedi is composed of seven districts: Tororo, Busia, Pallisa, Kibuku, Butaleja, Butebo, and Budaka.
In a significant step towards regional development, the Bukedi Strategic Plan was launched on 22nd August 2024 by H.E. Gen Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni during the thanksgiving ceremony of Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero at Petete Primary School in Butebo District. The President signed the memorial strategic plan symbol, marking the official beginning of a transformative journey for the region. The event was witnessed by Vice President H.E. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, alongside other distinguished leaders, signaling strong support for the region's growth.
This strategic plan introduces a comprehensive blueprint aimed at transforming Bukedi into an economically viable and resilient region. It focuses on sustainable growth, infrastructure improvement, and social welfare, with a vision of achieving long-term prosperity. The plan emphasizes targeted investments, capacity building, and community engagement as key strategies for success.
To ensure effective execution of the plan, Bukedi Development Consortium Limited (BUDECO) has been established as the implementing body. BUDECO will spearhead the coordination, monitoring, and execution of development plans across the region, ensuring that the initiatives outlined in the strategic plan are effectively delivered.
